I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Ver. 46. I am come a light into the world] Not by participation only (as the apostles were the lights of the world, Mat 5:14) but by nature. How prodigiously blasphemous then was that bishop in the Council of Trent, that (in his oration there made) applied this text to the pope, who at that time was Paul the Third, an odious hypocrite.
