John 18:1 - John Trapp Complete Commentary

Bible Comments

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

Ver. 1. Over the brook Cedron] This was the town ditch, 2 Chronicles 30:14, and had its name from its darkness or muddiness; for it received the baggage, as a common sink. Not far from hence was the valley of Hinnom, wherein there was kept a continual fire for the burning of dead carcases and other garbage, as Kimchi notes upon Psalms 27. Hence hell is called Gehenna.
