Withhold not thou thy tender mercies, &c.] Whereas, while the saints are on earth there will be a perpetual interchange of comforts and crosses; prayers must be joined with praises, and care taken that, confirmed by former experiences, they still depend upon God. Nunc in luto adhuc haerens et cum residuo calamitatum colluctans precatur Deum.
