As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.

Ver. 28. They are enemies] i.e. Hated of God, as appears by the opposition; and banished, as it were, by a common consent of nations, out of human society. See 1 Thessalonians 2:15,16 .
