At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations. At the noise of the taking of Babylon - See the note on the parallel place, Jeremiah 49:21 (note). In the forty-ninth chapter, these words are spoken of Nebuchadnezzar; here, of Cyrus. The taking of Babylon was a wonder to all the surrounding nations. It was thought to be impregnable.
