Proverbs 26:28 - Clarke's commentary and critical notes on the Bible

Bible Comments

A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin. A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it - He that injures another hates him in proportion to the injury he has done him; and, strange to tell, in proportion to the innocence of the oppressed. The debtor cannot bear the sight of his creditor; nor the knave, of him whom he has injured.

Commentary on the Bible, by Adam Clarke [1831].
