Damnation - a stumblingblock to many as to communicating. Translate, 'judgment.' The judgment described (1 Corinthians 11:30-32) is temporal. If this failed to reform, then, and not until then, eternal judgment would ensue.
Not discerning - not discriminatingly judging: not distinguishing in judgment х diakrinoon (G1252)], (the sin and its punishment are, by the cognate words, marked as corresponding) from common food, the sacramental pledges of the Lord's body. 'Aleph (') A B omit "Lord's" (see 1 Corinthians 11:27). C Delta G f g, Vulgate, have it. Omitting also "unworthily," with 'Aleph (') A B, translate, 'He that eateth and drinketh, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, IF he discern not THE body' (Hebrews 10:29). C Delta G f g, Vulgate, read "unworthily." The Church is "the body of Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:27): the Lord's body is His once for all sacrificed body, discerned by the soul in faithful receiving; not present in the elements themselves.
