1 Corinthians 14:34 - Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Bible Comments

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

(1 Timothy 2:11-12) For women to speak in public would be an act of independence, as if they were not subject to their husbands (cf. 1 Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 5:22; Titus 2:5; 1 Peter 3:1). For "under obedience" х hupotassesthoosan (G5293), as A B 'Aleph (') read; or the infinitive, as Delta G f g, Vulgate], translate 'in subjection' or 'submission,' as the Greek is translated Ephesians 5:21-22; Ephesians 5:24.

The Law - the whole Old Testament here (Genesis 3:16).
