Called his name Samuel, х Shªmuw'eel (H8050) (Shemuel, 1 Chronicles 6:33); Septuagint, Samoueel (G4545)] - doubtless with her husband's consent. The names of children were given sometimes by the fathers, and sometimes by the mothers (see the note at Genesis 4:1; Genesis 4:26; Genesis 5:29; Genesis 19:37; Genesis 21:3); and among the early Hebrews were commonly compound names, one part including the name of God.
