Despise not prophesyings.
Prophesyings - whether exercised in inspired teaching (as distinguished from х didachee (G1322)] 'teaching' under the ordinary influences of grace), or in predicting. 'Despised' by some, as fanatics had brought discredit on all extraordinary manifestations of the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19, note). At Corinth subsequently prophesyings were despised as beneath tongues, but are shown by Paul to be a greater gift, though tongues be more showy (1 Corinthians 14:5).
