They prevented me in the day of my calamity, х yªqadmuniy (H6923)] - they surprised me (see the notes at last clause of 2 Samuel 22:6). "In the day of my calamity" means during his persecution, when he more than once ran imminent risk of being captured or killed by surprise-when the missile was aimed at him by Saul (1 Samuel 18:11), when he was rescued by the artifice of his wife (1 Samuel 19:11-17), when the Ziphites betrayed him (1 Samuel 23:19-26), and when Saul entered the cave where David was hidden (1 Samuel 24:3).
