The concluding words of this Defense having raised an uproar among the crowd, the Tribune ignorant of the cause, orders him to be removed to the castle and examined by scourging, but is restrained and alarmed on learning that he is a Roman citizen-Next day, having had him released, he orders him to be tried by the Sanhedrin (22:22-30)
