Acts 23:30 - Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Bible Comments

And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait - or 'that they laid wait' хhupo (G5259 ) toon (G3588 ) Ioudaioon (G2453) being probably not genuine],

For the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee [what they had against him. Farewell]. Since these bracketed words [ta (G3588) pros (G4314) auton (G846 ). Errooso (G4517)] are of very doubtful authority, if we reject them, the close of the letter will run thus: 'I sent [him] straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also, to tell their own tale before thee.' Though this was not done when he wrote, it would be done before the letter reached.
