But (as DeWette says) it suits better the progress of the thought to take it in the sense of 'raised up of the seed of David,' as in Acts 13:23: see also Acts 3:22, and the same word in Luke 1:69. So Calvin, Bengel, and Lechler.

This naked and bold reference to the ignominy attached to that mode of death was evidently intended to bring out more vividly the contrast between their treatment of Him and God's, to be expressed in the next verse.
