The "times" are the phases and periods of duration of empires (cf. Daniel 7:25; 1 Chronicles 12:32; 1 Chronicles 29:30); the "seasons," the fitting times for their culmination, decline, and fall (Ecclesiastes 3:1; Acts 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:1). The vicissitudes of states, with their times and seasons, are not regulated by chance or fate, as the pagan thought, but by God.
