This is verified by the produce of the earth, not only in the immediate neighbourhood of Jerusalem, but over the whole of that land, which once flowed with milk and honey: the curse threatened by God has taken effect. Moreover, by a defective system of agriculture, being ignorant of harrows, the seeds sown are allowed to lie uncovered on the field, and are consequently devoured by birds; besides, wheat, on growing up, is consumed by caterpillars.
