For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Even as - Greek, 'as also.' See 1 Corinthians 11:3.

Christ's Headship is united with-nay, gained by-His having SAVED the body in redemption. The being "head" is common to both the husband and Christ: the bodies to which they are so are different. Another particular in which He does not resemble the husband is, HE and none else х autos (G846)], is the Saviour of the body. The husband is not saviour of the wife, in which Christ excels; hence, "But" (Ephesians 5:24) follows (Bengel).
