He that smiteth his father or his mother, х 'aabiyw (H1) wª'imow (H517) - his father and his mother. The 'and' is to be rendered distributively, 'or']. Smiting or cursing a parent are declared capital offences, because they are gross outrages on those who were created in the image, and are earthly representatives, of God (cf. Exodus 20:12).
