And thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps thereof, that they may give light over against it.

They shall light the lamps thereof, х wªhe`ªlaah (H5927) 'et (H854) neeroteyhaa (H5216) wªhee'iyr (H215) `al (H5921) `eeber (H5676) paaneyhaa (H6440)] - and thou shalt put the lamps upon the candlestick, so that they may give light toward the quarter opposite one's face; i:e, straight forwards (cf. Ezekiel 1:9; Ezekiel 1:12), in front. [The Septuagint has: kai epitheeseis tous luchnous kai fanousi ektou henos prosoopou.] The light was derived from pure olive oil, and probably kept continually burning (cf. Exodus 30:7; Leviticus 24:2).
