For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

For ... - The third of "the better promises" (Hebrews 8:6). Forgiveness of sins is the root of this new state of inward knowledge of the Lord. Sin being abolished, sinners obtain grace.
