For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

In returning and rest shall ye be saved - In turning back from your embassy to Egypt, and ceasing from warlike preparations.

In quietness - answering to "wait for Him," God (Isaiah 30:18).
