Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
Bruit. - rumour of invasion. The antithesis is between the voice of God in His prophets, which they turned a deaf ear to, and the cry of the enemy, a new teacher, whom they must hear (Calvin).
North country - Babylon (Jeremiah 1:15).
