He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
Saith - poetically applied to his mettlesome neighing, whereby he shows his love of the battle.
Smelleth - snuffeth: discerneth (margin, Isaiah 11:3).
Thunder - thundering voice.
