When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

When shall ... the night - literally, 'When shall be the flight of the night?' х midad (H4059), 'flight,' from naadad (H5074), to fly]. The Hebrew "night" is literally 'evening' х `ereb (H6153)] - in contrast to х neshep (H5399)] 'morning twilight' (Gesenius). Umbreit translates [from the Arabic and Hebrew, maadad (H4058), to extend a line], 'The night is long extended'-literally, measured out: so margin.
