And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth (or 'place,' that is, on his table, [`the']) good wine; and when men have well drunk, х methusthoosin (G3182) = yishkªruw (H7937)], or 'drunk freely,' as Song of Solomon 5:1. The man is speaking of the general practice.

Then that which is worse (or inferior): but thou hast kept the good wine until now - thus testifying, while ignorant of the source of supply, not only that it was real wine, but better than any at the feast.
