'Argob (the Lejah) was probably in these early ages the mountain asylum of the Geshurites, who retired from the adjoining plain on the advance of the Israelites; and perhaps at first submitted to the foreigner, but were permitted to inhabit these strongholds; the Geshurites in the recesses of Argob (the Lejah) (cf. 1 Chronicles 11:23); the Maachathites amid the defiles of Hermon' (see the note at 2 Samuel 3:3) ('Handbook of Syria and Palestine,' p. 506).
