Unto Caleb ... he gave a part (see the note at Joshua 14:6-15 ) ... even the city of Arba, the father of Anak - the progenitor or founder of the race.
Which city is Hebron. It is said in general that Caleb obtained "Hebron for an inheritance" (Joshua 14:13). But as the city itself was given to "the children of Aaron ... to be a city of refuge for the slayer (see the note at Joshua 21:13), it appears that Caleb's possession consisted of the field of the city and the villages thereof х chatseereyhaa (H2691), pastoral enclosures] (Joshua 21:12).
