The force of the imperfect tenses here х kaiomenee (G2545) een (G2258) ... elalei (G2980) ... dieenoigen (G1272)], denoting what they felt during the whole time of His walk and talk with them, should if possible be preserved; as thus: 'Was not our heart burning within us while He was talking with us on the way, and while He was opening to us the Scriptures?' 'Ah! this accounts for it: We could not understand the glow of self-evidencing light, love, glory, that ravished our hearts; but now we do.' They cannot rest-how could they?-they must go straight back and tell the news. They cannot think of sleeping over it.
