And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old. In Matthew and Mark the word employed х agnafon (G46)] signifies 'uncarded,' 'unfulled,' or 'undressed' cloth, which, as it in apt to shrink when wetted, would rend the old cloth to which it was sewed:

If otherwise - if he will do so unwise a thing,

Then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was takes out of the new agreeth not with the old.
