Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, х afeoontai (G863) hai (G3588) hamartiai (G266) autees (G846) hai (G3588) pollai (G4183)] - 'those many sins of hers are forgiven.' As He had acknowledged before how deep was her debt, so now He reiterates it: her sins were indeed many; her guilt was of a deep dye; but in terms the most solemn He proclaims it all cancelled.
For she loved much. The "for" here х hoti (G3754)] is plainly evidential, and means, 'inasmuch as' or 'seeing that.' Her love was not the cause, but the proof of her forgiveness; as is evident from the whole structure of the parable.
But to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little - a delicately ironical intimation of there being no love in the present case, and so no forgiveness.
