There is no hint given in this narrative to warrant the assertion of Dr. Colenso, that the Levites were exempted from the general doom of the rebellious Israelites, though it is evident, from what is said elsewhere, that though Caleb and Joshua were the only persons belonging to the number of the spies who were spared, others also of their contemporaries survived the protracted stay in the wilderness (cf. Joshua 14:1).
