Bible Comments

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge. For the Qeri' х shaaliyshiym (H7991)], "excellent things," the Kethibh reads х shilshowm (H8032)], 'long ago'-literally, the day before yesterday; but this Hebrew word is never used without 'yesterday' ( tªmowl (H8543)) preceding. Proverbs 8:6, "Excellent (princely) things," corresponds to the English version: Hebrew, nªgiydiym (H5057). Shalishim are properly a class of military principal leaders. The Chaldaic Septuagint, Vulgate, Syriac, and Arabic translate, 'in a three-fold manner,' or 'three times.' 'Counsels" refer to practical everyday life; "knowledge," to theory.
