Midnight is often the time of God's judgments for His people on their foes; as in the case of the Egyptians (Exodus 11:4; Exodus 12:29). Israel at midnight remembers this deliverance, and rises to give thanks. Compare Job 34:20 with 35:10; Luke 12:20. I thank thee not merely lying on my bed, but rising up for the purpose out of my bed.
