Psalms 45:2 - Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Bible Comments

Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

Thou art fairer than the children of men. The Hebrew is a peculiarly intensive form х yaapªyaapiytaa (H3302), for yªpiy yaapiytaa]; literally, 'Thou art beautifulness beautiful' - i:e., thou art perfectly beautiful-namely, with spiritual beauty, as the following clause implies.

Grace is poured into thy lips - by the Holy Spirit. So the Queen of Sheba to Solomon, the type (1 Kings 10:8). Of the Antitype Luke (Luke 4:22) writes with reference to this (Psalms 45:2), "All bare Him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth." It was in reading Isaiah 61:1 that He manifested that He was the Anointed One. This inward beauty, beaming forth in His outward expression, tones, gestures and deeds, formed the ground of the divine and everlasting blessing which follows.

Therefore God hath blessed thee for ever - (cf. Psalms 45:7; Psalms 45:17.) The blessing consists in a supreme, world-wide, and everlasting dominion.
