What then? - How stands the case?

Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded, х epoorootheesan (G4456)] - better thus: 'What Israel is in search of (meaning justification, or acceptance with God-see the note at Romans 9:31), this he found not х toutou (G5127) of the Received Text has next to no authority: touto (G5124) is the true reading]: but the election found it (that is, the elect remnant of Israel), and the rest were hardened' (or judicially given over to the hardness of their own hearts).
