Romans 3:23 - Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Bible Comments

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

For all have sinned - `For all sinned' х heemarton (G264). The aorist is here used, as the thing affirmed is regarded, in respect of the whole race, as already an accomplished fact].

And [do] come short of the glory of God - that is, 'of the praise' or 'approval' of God: as the same word х doxa (G1391)] is used in John 12:43, etc., and as the best interpreters take it here. Though men differ greatly in the nature and extent of their sinfulness, there is absolutely no difference between the best and the worst of men, in the fact, that "all have sinned," and so underlie the wrath of God.
