Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

Months must be stopped, х epistomizein (G1993)] - 'muzzled,' 'bridled' as an unruly beast (Psalms 32:9). Who, х hoitines (G3748)] - '(seeing they are) such as;' or 'inasmuch as they' (Ellicott). Subvert whole houses - `overthrowing their "faith" (2 Timothy 2:18). 'They are the devil's levers by which he subverts the houses of God' (Theophylact).

For filthy lucre (1 Timothy 3:3; 1 Timothy 3:8; 1 Timothy 6:5). 'The Cretans alone of men consider no gain to be dishonourable' (Polybius, 'History,' 6: 46. 3).
