conscience. i.e. conviction. Greek. suneidesis, but the texts read (first occurance) sunnetheia, custom (see John 18:39; John 11:16). The meaning is much the same. Having been so long accustomed to believe the idol to have. real existence, they still regard the sacrifice as. real one.
