Either he repaired the old pillar set up by him, Genesis 28:18, which was ruined by the injury of time, or by the neighbouring idolaters; or rather erected a new one, more stable and durable than he could do in that time, as a monument or witness of God's manifold favours, and of his own gratitude. The drink-offering was of wine, as may be gathered by comparing Exodus 29:40 Numbers 28:14.
