1 John 2:24 - Coke's Commentary on the Holy Bible

Bible Comments

Let that therefore abide in you— This verse contains an inference from what was said before; namely, "As they who received the doctrine of the false teachers, did in effect hold neither the Father nor Son, therefore the true Christians were to hold fast the pure, primitive, and apostolic doctrine, which they had heard from their first conversion to Christianity, and not regardthe false teachers." The pure doctrine of the gospel is that which was from the beginning; that which was preached by the apostles and evangelists, and which is with certainty to be found in their writings, andno where else: accordingly Tertullian says, "That is true which was first; that was first which was from the beginning; that was from the beginning, which was from the apostles."

1 John 2:24

24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
