And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

Ver. 27. And the keeper of the prison] In whom the earthquake had wrought a heartquake, as it had also (though not to so good purpose) in the magistrates, Acts 16:35. See Trapp on " Act 16:35 " We read that the people of Antioch, though many of them gave their hands for Chrysostom's banishment; yet, terrified by an earthquake, immediately they sent for him again.
