And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know, х ginooskoo (G1097) ... epistamai (G1987)] - 'Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with.' Probably the latter word (though somewhat stronger) was not intended to express any greater knowledge of Paul than of Jesus, but merely to vary the expression (see Mark 1:24; Mark 1:34).

But who are ye? - an expression of unmeasured contempt for which they were evidently quite unprepared. But worse still:
