Bible Comments

And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

And the next day we touched ('landed') at Sidon. To reach this ancient and celebrated Mediterranean port-about 70 miles north of Caesarea-in one day, they must have had a good wind.

And Julius courteously entreated Paul (see the note at Acts 27:1),

And gave him liberty to go unto his friends - no doubt disciples, gained probably all along the Phoenician coast, from the time when first the ground was broken there (see the notes at Acts 11:19; Acts 21:4).

To refresh himself - which after his long confinement would not be unnecessary. Such small details are in this case extremely interesting.
