Proverbs 15:14 - Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Bible Comments

The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge. "The heart," because such a one seeks it not perfunctorily and casually, but with all the heart.

But the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. "The mouth" х piy (H6310)], so the Masoretic text has it, adding, however, that in some copies it is 'the countenance'-literally, countenances [pªgeey]. "Feedeth on foolishness" (vanity, worldly pleasure, idle, uncharitable, and unprofitable talk, etc.) as its sweetest morsel; delights in it.
