From all iniquity, х anomias (G458)] - 'lawlessness,' the essence of sin; namely, 'transgression of the law' (1 John 3:4), in bondage to which we were until then. The aim of redemption was to redeem us, not merely from the penalty, but the being of iniquity. He reverts to the "teaching," or disciplining effect of the grace of God that bringeth salvation (Titus 2:11-12).
