Psalms 2:2 - The Popular Commentary by Paul E. Kretzmann

Bible Comments

Of the Eternal Sonship of the Messiah.

The Futile Rage Of The Nations.

That the entire psalm is Messianic is clearly shown by the quotation Acts 4:25-26, together with the explanation there added: "For of a truth against Thy holy Child Jesus, whom Thou hast anointed,.. the people.. were gathered together," v. 27. Cf Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5.

Psalms 2:1-6

1 Why do the heathen rage,a and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vexb them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I setc my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
